GuitarPal Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2026-08-13
GuitarPal respects your privacy.
This app does not require user accounts and does not collect personally identifiable information.
Information We Do Not Collect
- No names, email addresses, or account information
- No location data
- No contacts or photos
- No advertising identifiers
Microphone Access and Recording
GuitarPal requests microphone access only when you actively use recording features. The microphone is used to record your practice audio for in-app practice purposes (such as playback and comparison during practice).
Data Storage
By default, GuitarPal stores your practice data locally on your device.
If you choose to turn on iCloud Sync, structured practice data such as practice sessions, exercises, practice history, statistics, and backing track metadata is stored in your private iCloud account through Apple’s CloudKit service. Imported backing track audio files are also stored in your iCloud account. This allows your practice data and backing tracks to sync between devices signed in with the same Apple Account. Backing tracks may need to be downloaded before use on another device and use storage in your iCloud account.
Audio recordings remain on your device and are not uploaded to iCloud. GuitarPal does not upload your practice data or audio files to developer-operated servers.
iCloud Sync
iCloud Sync is optional and can be controlled in GuitarPal settings. GuitarPal uses Apple’s iCloud and CloudKit services only while iCloud Sync is enabled. Apple processes iCloud data according to its own privacy policy and service terms.
Turning off iCloud Sync stops future syncing after the next time you open the app. It does not automatically delete data or backing track files already stored locally or in iCloud. Backing tracks already downloaded to the device remain available locally.
Third-Party Services and Sharing
GuitarPal may collect anonymous usage data for product analytics and to improve the app experience. This data is not used for advertising, and GuitarPal does not share your recordings or other practice content with third parties.
Your Controls
- You can turn iCloud Sync on or off in GuitarPal settings.
- You can delete practice data inside the app. When iCloud Sync is enabled, those deletions are also synchronized through iCloud.
- You can delete imported backing tracks inside the app. When iCloud Sync is enabled, GuitarPal also removes the corresponding file from your iCloud account and synchronizes the deletion to your other devices.
- You can delete recordings inside the app at any time.
- You can disable microphone permission in system settings at any time (recording features will no longer be available until permission is re-enabled).
Changes to This Policy
This privacy policy may be updated in the future if app functionality changes. Any updates will be reflected on this page.
